The television reality show, Living Lohan, debuted May 26, 2008 on E! It was originally going to be called “Momager” since Dina Lohan, 45, is both mother and manager to her 14 year old daughter, Aliana (Ali) and the series focuses on Ali’s pursuit of a show biz career similar to sister, Lindsay’s.
A great thing about Living Lohan is the Lohan’s normal-looking Merrick, Long Island, New York home. Unlike most celebrity families in these types of shows, the Lohan’s home is an average suburban house rather than a fancy mansion. Many people are surprised by that, but as single mom Dina insists, the Lohan clan is a pretty normal, average family. For example, Ali and her 12 year old brother, Dakota (Cody), roughhouse and whine like typical kids and the place is decent, but also dog-friendly and lived-in.
Dina Lohan has stated that her main reason for wanting to do the show is to help dispute the untrue picture the media tends to portray as far as she and her children are concerned. She says she is no partying mom, but rather just wants to help her children be what they want to be and do the best she can. To Dina’s credit, she is not your typical pushy stage mom since it’s apparent that Ali, like Lindsay, really wants to sing, act and model. Ali herself constantly mentions how much she wants to follow in her famous sister’s footsteps and it’s never in a fake way as she certainly can be very rebellious when she wants to be – just like any typical teen.
In the fourth episode of Living Lohan we see Ali defy Dina’s orders not to bring another dog into the house since they already have five. Dina mentions she’s already looking after Lindsay’s two dogs, plus the others and Ali is not helping very much. When Ali brings a dog home because she wants a pup of her very own, Dina doesn’t let her get away with it. She makes Ali prove she can and will look after the dog or she won’t be allowed to keep it. The result is positive as Ali learns how much work caring for a dog actually is and we see some hilarious footage that shows Ali having to clean up the yard after her dog.
Another positive aspect of the show is that we get to see a lot of behind the scenes activities that are a part of the recording of Ali’s album that’s due to be released in late 2008. The Lohans pack for Las Vegas as Ali is set to record her album at The Studio at The Palms. Ali’s grandma doesn’t want to go to Las Vegas and this is a headache for “momager” Dina. Whether it’s family conflict or a wall catching on fire (be sure to see episode 2!), there is never a dull moment when you’re Living Lohan!
